How to Schedule Non-Standard Repeating Events in the Calendar

For all the great usability Android has, not having flexible calendar scheduling options has been something missing from the Calendar Application. When I had my Palm Treo I used Datebook 6. It had a lot of features including the flexibility to schedule events every two weeks. This is a simple feature that I am surprised is missing in Android. Adding an event to repeat every two weeks is useful for tracking your pay-days for instance. I happened on to the answer by chance.

The answer is to use a widget called The Pure Calendar Widget. I used The Pure Calendar Widget on my phone for awhile but stopped using it. I had to reduce the number of widgets I was running due to my slow HTC Hero. I now have a Sprint HTC Evo Shift. So, I’ve got plenty of horse power for a few widgets.

To schedule advanced repeating events:

– Download the Pure Calendar Widget from the Market

– Add the widget to your home screen.

– On the Widget click the icon to add a new event

– The resulting pop up gives you options to choose the Date, Time, Duration, and Repeat.

– The Repeat button presents the following dialogue:

As you can see the above dialogue is set to repeat the event every two weeks for the next 12 months. The ‘every…’ and ‘during…’ selectors have choices for day, week, and month. This give far more flexibility in scheduling repeat events than the standard Calendar application.
